Crate and Barrel Goes Old School

While scouting Crate and Barrel for dining room chairs I came across the Kitchenette Light Oak Table and it immediately took me back to Elementary School Days! Isn't this table reminiscent of the school desks we had as grade school students? The tubular steel with a thin wood top that looks as it is floating above the chrome base is just as I remembered it to be!

Crate and Barrel Dining Table

The table is an affordable option (the rectangle version above is $239) for the kitchen or even to be used as a desk! It is available in 3 finishes; light oak, walnut and white.

Thankfully with the modern day version the chair is separate, no awkward moments of trying to stand up straight and getting caught....not that I ever did that!

Thanks C&B for the walk down memory lane! Now to find a place for this table in my own house!

Anthropologie & Holly Becker of Decor8

Boston was one lucky city this weekend as it was the first stop on Holly Becker's book signing tour! If you do not know Holly she is the writer behind the uber popular Decor8 blog and also the author of the new book Decorate. As you might remember I wrote about the book a few months ago and absolutely loved it!

Decorate1BOS
The morning started at Anthropologie downtown with Holly putting on a Mood Board Demonstration. She was so personal and funny during her presentation and talked about how every room should have that one piece which is "wrong" or doesn't quite fit in. I could not agree more, it's usually the one piece guests are drawn to in the space!

 Decorate
Next Holly made her way downstairs and signed books for 2 hours! I was so excited for her as the line wrapped around the store. I of course went shopping and picked up this little & gem for a certain engagement photo shoot which will take place this week! Cute prop right?

As you might know if there is an opportunity for me to gather local creatives together I will plan a party and this was no exception! About 23 New England designers, artists, photographers, fabric designers and bloggers gathered to network and honor Holly at a lunch! We had such a fantastic afternoon swapping stories and getting to know each other. As you can see we had one long, loud table!

Monday Morning Happy!

Morning Friends! After a week of vacation I am tanned, relaxed, inspired and ready to tackle my inbox!
Here are a few images from the last week I wanted to share with you.

Delaware
The house we stayed at in Delaware was right on the beach so my mornings started with a quiet walk, just me and the waves! Nature can truly be so rejuvenating especially in the early AM hours!

D&D
Of course while I was there I scouted out a few of the local home stores and stumbled upon my friend Stacy's beautiful Dunes and Duchess Lamps. Boxwood Home is just darling, actually the entire street the store is on is like an artist haven!

BeachDays
This was the adorable house that was across from ours and I just fell in love with it. The combination of the blue roof, yellow siding and white trim gave off the perfect beach vibe! Now the round tables out front and the lack of landscaping left something to be desired but on the whole it's a sweet home!

Monday Morning Happy

Finally vacation time has arrived! This week I will be spending time at home catching up on items I have been dying to accomplish around the house and also spending some time at the beach! Hopefully the weather will be a bit better than the beach image below and allow for a few great days of reading in the sunshine!

I hope you all have a great week and I will be back on Monday with some exciting news and inspiring posts!

Color Time - Benjamin Moore Narragansett Green

Welcome to Color Time! If you are new to CreateGirl this is a series where I present a photograph of a room and introduce you to the exact paint color in that room. This enclosed porch caught my attention for it's Narragansett Green dark trim and floor. It is another good example of how paint on a on a horizontal surface can take on a different tone when painted vertically!

The paint color seamlessly brings the outdoor view inside. Painting the moldings white would be much to harsh in this area! What do you say, would you use this color on your porch?

*Note: The above room is the actual paint color not just a resemblance of the color. As you can see above, the paint chip sample online looks different than what is in the actual room photo. When choosing paint for your own home never go by what you see online, the color will always be a tad different. I suggest picking up a small paint sample at the store and paint a color swatch in the actual room, than you will never be disappointed!

Monday Morning Happy

Morning Morning! How was your weekend?
Over the last few days we reconnected with friends we have not seen in months. Isn't it the best when your friendship is so strong that you can just pick up right where you left off? Both of our visits consisted of long chats around kitchen islands. There is just something about a long surface with stools that is so inviting, don't you agree? Especially when it involves summer cocktails and yummy BBQ!

Have a fantastic new week!

Stylish Not Childish rugs

Recently I was working with a client and when we arrived at the doorstep of her child's room she said I want a stylish but not overly childish rug! This is a comment I hear very often from parents! Whether the rug is being used as a play area in a corner of the living room or in the bedroom they are not interested in cutesy Disney cartoon figures. They prefer a rug that balances a child like attitude but feels a bit more mature!

What do you have in your child's room? Do you go the route of a solid adult like, a more modern version like above or do you like the cartoon figures?

Home Typography Tuesday + a small space solution

Of course I love this room for the large letter over the bed and knew it would be perfect for Home Type Tuesday but when you look closer there is another reason to talk about this space. Many times we have these odd shaped rooms and people are at a loss where to put the bed. In this instance the Tilton Fenwick girls nestled the bed right into this jogged out corner. With the wallpaper blending into the headboard and matching pillows it disguises the lack of space! Brilliant!

Monday Morning Happy

Morning Friends! How was your weekend? It's hard to believe it is August 1st today! This is the time of summer when I start to get nervous that the Northeast summer is rapidly coming to an end and I resolve to spend every free (and not so free) moment outside! This weekend was all about being outdoors!

Harvard Sq
A walk through Harvard University is the perfect way to spend a warm summer evening! This gorgeous door to the library caught my attention, the ironwork is just incredible!

Duxbury
Don't you agree that every Sunday morning should begin like this? Calm waters, a beautiful blue sky and a warm day can put any overworked designer at ease!

Check back later for a sneak peek of a client project I am working on!
Enjoy the new (summer) week!
