High Point Market Upholstery Trends

As I mentioned there is over 10 million sq ft of showroom space at High Point Market which means it is nearly impossible to see everything! As for upholstery there were a few common themes throughout the show.

HP tufting
Tufting continued to be a strong presence at the fall show. It was not limited to the seat or back but the entire piece, I labeled this "overall tufting"!

Interesting sofa backs were everywhere which I loved! When a back is so pretty it lets us float the sofa in a room. Some had gentle curves while others had stronger angles.

HPchannel
Channeling, some people love it and some people are not a fan but it seems like a trend and not just for the modern group. These pieces were even mixed with more rustic casegoods.

Both nailheads and round pulls were a lovely detail on many pieces. This Palecek dining chair combined these trends seamlessly!

Colorful upholstered pieces lead to a happy feel around the home. The exaggerated wingback continued to be a trend manufacturers love!

Monday Morning Happy!

Good Morning Friends! I can't believe I have been out of the office for 10 days, it feels like a lifetime when you are a business owner. Right now I am plowing through my inbox and creating a laundry list of things that need my attention stat. How do you manage your inbox when you come back from traveling?

High Point Market was incredible! It is hard to put into words how massive it is, on Twitter I described it as a Visual Marathon. We were literally on the go from 8am until midnight every day! It was so much fun, I come home motivated and inspired.

HPCards
This is just a tiny part of my bag from the first day at Market! I loved the StyleSpotter cards we were given and some of the business cards were so creative.

If you can imagine this is just one of the many buildings at Market!

I took over 350 pictures over 4 days and can't wait to share a sampling of them with you! The easiest way to share all of the pictures and trends with you will be to break it down over a week. Each day I will post a new topic:
Monday - Upholstery
Tuesday - Typography/Wall Decor
Wed - Casegoods
Thursday - Accents
Friday - Party Pictures/ Color Trends

I hope you will visit throughout the week!

Pinning at High Point Market

Morning! I am packing for High Point and have that fun butterfly feeling in my stomach! A few weeks ago I was asked by the fabulous folks at High Point Market to be a part of their first ever StyleSpotter program. They have chosen 8 Designers/Bloggers from the U.S. and Canada to spot the trends and "pin" them to their Pinterest boards.

You might ask what is High Point? It is a Furniture Show twice a year where vendors come to unveil their new lines of furniture and home accents. It is comprised of 180 buildings and over 10 million sq feet of showspace. A whooping 85,000 people attend! Holy Moly is right! Can we say flat shoes?! For the last week I have been mapping out a laundry list of showrooms to visit and know I will return home full of creative new ideas!

The Case for a Built In

Last night I casually said to the fiance, "the one thing I really look forward to registering for is table linens and platters"! Well I thought his eyes would permanently roll into the back of his head and never return...you see I already have an overabundance of tableware, tablecloths and napkins but I think a girl could always use more (thanks MOM!). Truth be told I can't really justify buying or receiving another piece because I don't have the space to store them. I am a designer you see so I walked the house to visualize where we could (down the road..) create a built in for all my precious items!

BHGDiningRoom
Maybe I will choose to have the piece span from one side of the wall to the other, this should create enough storage!

I could work it into the architectural details of the rooms and build a cabinet on either side of the doorway. This is a pretty option and would not overwhelm the room.

This built in is an interesting option as it links to a walk in storage unit! Could this be the best of both worlds? Maybe!

I am sure this conversation will continue so stay tuned and if you have any fantastic built in photos please send them my way!

Meeting Candice Olson

Last week the incredibly talented (and very welcoming) designer Candice Olson came to the Boston Design Center to speak at "Design Boston". Not only was it an inspiring talk but her words confirmed the way I have been designing for the last 7 years at Jace Interiors!

A neutral space does not have to result in a boring space. As you can see above by mixing textures and contrasting patterns you create great interest! Just look at the wallpaper against the sharp white panels and frames, it looks stunning!

Candice-Olson-HGTV
Candice emphasized that a smaller budget will require you to be even more creative and is often a bigger challenge! Look at this compact attic above, she truly is a genius at maximizing a space.

Candice-Olson-HGTV
During her talk it was crystal clear, lighting is her passion! Lighting can literally make or break a room. As you can see in this dining room she has included recessed lighting, a grand chandelier and sconces. This all adds to the intimacy of the space though she stresses each lighting fixture needs to have a specific purpose.

Candice-Olson-Scope light
The Scope wall fixture is one of my favorites from the Candice Olson lighting collection. It could be used over a bedside table, nestled on a wall in a reading nook or even over a desk!

I was lucky enough to have a few seconds to say hello in person and to thank her for continuing to inspire me! She told a story of how when she first started she received a call for a $3,000 kitchen revamp which involved her painting the kitchen cabinets on her own. Years later this same client has now hired her to design 3 houses across the country. Lesson, you never know what a small job might become!

The Art of Taking Over

Oversized Art can elevate a room to an impressive state. Lately I have been drawn to these exaggerated pieces of wall decor and the way they can focus a space. The key is to choose furniture that compliments and flows easily with the art, anything too strong and your room will feel like it is having a shouting match.

What are your thoughts? Do you like oversized wall decor? Would you use it in your own house?

Trim It

We all know one of the easiest ways to update a room is with new throw pillows but when you add embellishment to those pillows, well it can take them to a level of WOW! Whether it is a simple loop fringe, an over sized tassel or a contrasting rope welt it will add that custom feel to a space.

Kravet Fringe

BDCpillowsKravet
There's no need to replace your sofa when you can just add striking pillows like the ones above!

SchumacherTrim
I love all types of trim! The "bobble fringe"on the left is one of my favorites. The silver/oyster version would add glam to any room!

Traditional Home Details BodySoul

Have you used trims on your own pillows? It's no just for the living room try a bit of fringe on your bedroom pillows too....it might just spice up your bed!

Home Typography Tuesday

Morning All!! I grew up in an Italian house where someone was always saying "Mangia Mangia" so when I came across this EAT I giggled to myself! Now that I am a Mom I hear myself saying the same thing during a drawn out dinner...EAT EAT!

Yes the typography is fantastic but take a look deeper into this room. The mix of the industrial chairs with a faux built in that is a contrasting finish is a nice change from the norm of continuing the same finish across the wall. Also can you see the Seagrass arm chair to the right? Check out the outside arm, it looks to be painted! A fabulous accent!
