Color Time - Benjamin Moore Sail Cloth

This week's "Color Time" is one that exudes the softness of spring! The color is considered a beige but when paired with a bright purple it takes on a subtle whisper of plum. It is just perfect for a new season update and the name Sail Cloth adds to the soothing factor!

What are your plans for spring? Will you repaint your bedroom a soothing color?

To see more of this gorgeous space pop on over to New England Home Magazine!

**Note: The above room is the actual paint color not just a resemblance of the color. As you can see above, the paint chip sample online looks different than what is in the actual room photo. When choosing paint for your own home never go by what you see online, the color will always be a tad different. I suggest picking up a small paint sample at the store and paint a color swatch in the actual room, than you will never be disappointed!

Talk about taking center stage, this letterpress wallpaper knows how to steal the spotlight! The dimensional look is truly incredible and gives the feeling of actual letterpress blocks!

Monday Morning Happy with Holly Becker & Decorate!

Good Morning Friends! How did you enjoy your few days off?

This weekend I immersed myself in Holly Becker and Joanna Copestick's new book Decorate and let me tell you it is just fantastic!! It's not just a decorating book it is a resource and one I promise you will refer back to many times. Did you know Holly is the one that encouraged me to start blogging and how CreateGirl was born? Jace Interiors was featured on Daily Candy and after that Holly asked if she could interview me for Decor8 which was my first introduction into the big wide wonderful world of blogs! When people ask for blogging advice I often tell them this story and how it only takes encouragement from one person to get you started on a path that could very well change your life!

I am not one to review books but I am excited to share my favorite parts with you! First you should know the book is divided into four sections: Space Matters, Setting Your Style, Room by Room and Attention to Detail.

DecorateHB4
The space planning tips are a wonderful tool as you can find a floor plan that is similar to your room size and implement these moves immediately!

DecorateHB3
I was so excited to see Amy Neunsinger's dining room included in this book. Remember how much I loved it and even wrote a post about it! This section is about "Using Your Space" including all the architectural details and elements that made you fall in love with your house in the first place.

DecorateHB2Leslie
The Attention to Detail section could very well be my favorite! Flowers, ahh what can I say, I fell in love with all of these images. "Flowers are the costume jewelry of the home" what a quote and so true. They can bring life to any space!

DecorateHB1
The book is also chock full of quotes from some of my favorite people including Nate Berkus, Simon Doonan, Leslie Shewring, Vicente Wolf, Susan Serra and Victoria Smith!

I purchased my book at Anthropologie but you can also order it online at Amazon!
Best of luck Holly, this book is just beautiful!

Trina Turk to the Rescue

Just as I thought the ugliness of winter was behind me, I wake up to snow this morning. Instead of letting it get me down once again, I decided to throw myself into all things bright and cheery! Enter Ms. Trina Turk's pure colors paired with crisp whites and I am immediately transported to a warm resort! Every time I visit her site either for clothing or home pieces I leave much more positive than I arrived. Funny how some colorful fabric can do that to a girl!

Sponsored Post - What type of chair are you

You have probably heard by now the fabulous local company Circle Furniture sponsored me on my trip to California to attend the Design Bloggers Conference! It was a trip full of learning new business techniques, meeting Social Media friends in real life and connecting with magazine editors. I can't thank Sarah & Richard enough for being on the forefront of sponsoring designers to attend conferences like this!

As you know I am a chair lover which is evident by the number of chairs I just moved to the new house. Like shoes a girl can never have too many options so I ask what chair style is your favorite?

CircleMcCartney
The McCartney is a modern approach to the traditional Wing Back!

CircleJeanChair
You could get the popular mid century feel by using the Jean Chair by Candice Olsen in a grouping!

A barrel chair can give any room a traditional feel though adding a high gloss black finish definitely gives it a updated look!

Or would you choose to go ultra sleek with the Sandy Chaise?
It is an array of chairs like this that make me wish for multiple houses! For my new house I would choose the Cole Chair as my favorite! Thankfully Circle Furniture has options to fit every single style. If you are Traditional, Contemporary, Trendy or love the cottage look they have pieces that will work for you!

Please leave a comment and tell me your favorite chair!

Monday Morning Happy

As I sit here watching the snowflakes fall outside my office window I keep reminding myself today is the first day of SPRING! Inside I am jumping around like this little red headed girl, dreaming of carefree  days with warmer weather and bright sunshine to make me happy! I love the idea of lazy weekends watching little ones play baseball and enjoying long hours with my book in the hammock!

A Spot of Green with Jonathan Adler & Liz Lange

Happy St.Patrick's Day! Much to my Mom's pleasure I do my best to embrace my Irish side today!

Take a look at fashion designer Liz Lange's cheery kitchen created by the one and only Jonathan Adler! The accents of green give the perfect punch to the serene black and white palette.

HB JonathanAdlerLizLange
The Saarinen Table is a dream, notice how there is not much contrast between the floor and table? A nice touch, normally I would think the lack of contrast would diminish the table but actually it gives it a subtle spotlight!

HBJAlderLizLange2
Do you like the cabinets? Well guess what, they are IKEA! Yea that's right and don't they look fabulous?! The classic Norman Cherner chairs and bar stools add an animated touch to the space and are the perfect compliment to the table shape!

Do you want to bring home a little green for yourself today? Check out these accent pillows from Jonathan Adler's store!

What do you think of this clean, crisp and bright kitchen? Is it your style?

Stalking with Jo of Desire To Inspire

Normally I am not one to duplicate a topic of a fellow bloggers post but I just had to share this house!! Forever I have been dreaming of a little summer cottage by the sea but when I popped over to Desire To Inspire and saw this sweet cottage just hanging out in a calm open field I thought....maybe I have a new dream!

DTI2
I am loving Jo's "Stalking" series where she scours real estate sites and delivers up the most swoon worthy homes for sale. This is an instance where smaller is definitely better, it looks so cozy!

DTI3
What more does one really need to relax? A bed, a comfy chair and a fireplace...pure bliss!

DTI4
Add in an outdoor tub and you have just created a place you might never want to leave! Oh and the heat lamp on the deck is what sold me on this place!

Want a little daydream break yourself? Pop on over to see Jo's list of houses, though be warned you might not be so happy with your current dwelling!

Design Blogger Conference Tips Part 2

Last week I promised a few more tips from #DBC2011 but I think the best way to pass them is to gather round the kitchen table and list them. If you need me to expand on any just shoot me an email or leave a comment!

Blogging with the Stars:
Grace from Design*Sponge was so real, I just loved it! A big statement she made was not to think freelance is a walk in the park again you will work harder than you ever have! She stressed the importance of investing in a well designed blog layout and covering a wide range of lifestyle series. A great confirmation was that she can not do everything she wants right away and actually has a savings account she puts money into each month for the larger projects! Great idea!

Cassandra from Coco+Kelley's tips were perfect for both the newbie blogger and a reminder to the seasoned blogger. A great way to grow your audience is to leave comments, send a hello email to a blogger you admire and most important get out and NETWORK! She has started many series on her blog and has become known as an expert, this has helped her reach out to editors and show she has original content.

Dan McCarthy was INCREDIBLE and he offered up the information which will have the most impact on my business. There was way too many good nuggets to write in one post but go ahead and follow him on twitter to gain from his Social Media knowledge.

Tips:
Create profession content, truly share your opinion and most importantly be authentic and transparent. The more authentic your blog is the more you will engage and the more appealing you become to readers.

Make it easy for people to subscribe to your blog whether Google reader, RSS feed or email. Always use the same URL when posting on different sites, this way Google knows you are a social identity and can point back to your site.

Leverage your influence, access and knowledge!

Don't post throw aways and don't apologize for not blogging, people don't want to read that when they first find your blog! Go back and read that again, don't post throw aways. If you are not into the topic your readers will be able to see right through you!!

Be actively involved in the conversation (yes that is right don't just tweet & walk away...engage!!)

Desire to Inspire

Lastly I will share a few points from Ronda at All The Best, who I just adore and want to soak up every piece of advice she has!

Questions to ask yourself: Who are you? What do you do?  What does it matter?

In her experience, when you make a decision and it scares the heck out of everyone else than it usually turns into a good decision!

Be clear on your brand and what you want to achieve. Posting on Twitter is pointless unless you have a clear strategy! (This is so true remember when I tweeted about your 2011 Social Media plan? If you don't have one, it's not to late to create one believe me it has helped my Social Media efforts stay focused!!)

It is very important to follow your brand competitors, your target audience, industry leaders and influential media people. Know who is out there and what they are posting! (this is the number 1 tip I also share with people that ask for advice, know who is out there!)

To see a few pictures from the conference head on over to the Jace Interiors & CreateGirl Facebook page, I met so many fun people!

Monday Morning Happy!

OK friends this might be the happiest Monday Morning post I will ever write! As you know on Friday I was packing up to leave my city apartment to move in with my boyfriend. Well little did I know that in a matter of a few hours he would change from my boyfriend to my fiance!

MuseumPic

Yes, that's right I am an ENGAGED girl and completely over the moon about it! Not only is he the most fabulous guy a girl could ask for but he proposed in a way that I will always have a connection to the city. I will keep most of the details to myself but to share a little he popped the question at a Museum in Boston and than took me to my very favorite restaurant, Oleana to have one last city dinner in my neighborhood. To say it was absolute perfection would not do the night justice! Now the question becomes how do I get any work done because as I type I am completely distracted by the sparkle that has taken up a home on my finger!!

Packing Up & Moving Out

So today is the day, the day I have waited for years now to have and the one I have dreaded for months. I am moving out of my city apartment, a place I have called home for 10 years now.

merci-beaumarchaisMorning By Foley

As you have heard me say in the past I am a true city girl right to my soul so moving out to the "burbs" is a big change for me. Looking back, when I came to this Cambridge apartment  I was a young girl without much direction just searching for something to hold onto. It is a place full of life and optimism, just a quick walk to Harvard Square where the energy could carry me even on my most tired day!

harvard01

It was here at this kitchen table where "Jace Interiors" was born and the office where I wrote my very first post on "CreateGirl". This is the living room where I jumped up and down when Daily Candy Boston gave me my first taste of being in the press and where reluctantly I let the Boston Globe in to profile me in my apt. It's the bedroom I cried tears of sadness as my heart was broken many times over and the front door I welcomed my friends new babies! It's my beloved 10' x 11' back deck, my oasis in the city, the place I spent my absolute favorite days and the place I planned many dinner parties with family and friends! As I pack up to leave I cry tears of joy and remembrance, you see I am moving on to a new chapter in a life I only dreamed I would ever have. I have found my prince charming in a handsome guy we will call "Vog".

521 (take 3)

I know I am not the only one who has ever been attached to a house and I know I will not be the last. Over the last few weeks I have wondered if it is because of my job there is such an attachment or if it is the end of a chapter? Either way I am such a lucky girl to have lived the city life for as long as I have. As the days go forward I am sure I will be sharing details of decorating a new house for two people with different styles, inevitably I will become my own client! So I say a public goodbye to my sweet little square full of unique stores and the most delicious restaurants and all the creativity that was just out my front door. I look forward to my new life as I close the door on my old one!

On Monday I will continue my recap of the Design Blogger Conference!
Enjoy your weekend and thanks for all the comments and support!

Design Blogger Conference 2011

WOW what an amazing few days I just had! I am back home from an inspiring 3 days out in California at the Design Blogger Conference. To be honest I was not sure what to expect, sometimes you go to these conferences and they can be hit or miss but this one was spot on! I found it to be geared much more to the full time interior designer and blogger, purely focused on business. Seriously there was no messing around here and I loved it! I will have a full recap over the next few days but here are just a few points that continue to stick out in my mind.

 "Work Hard and Be Nice"!
One of the common themes from each speaker was that you will work harder than you ever have and be nice to everyone you meet! Social Media is a very supportive and encouraging place, take advantage of it. Many people credited their ability to reach out to those they admired and ask for help and guidance. Most often these experts were willing to offer up a few minutes of advice or pass on a contact!

MattBurkeviaPinterest
"Valleys & Peaks"
The quote that truly resonated with me was from the infectious Tracey Porter that we learn more in the valleys than we do in the peaks but when we are in the peaks we should slow down and stay focused. This is something I need to implement, when we are all at our busiest we are moving so fast that we might veer away from our goals and get off our business track. Her suggestion was to stay on point with your brand and constantly check in with yourself!

TobiFairley
"Photograph EVERYTHING!"
Tobi Fairley is incredible and shared so many tips on how to grow your design business. I will share many more of her tips in the next post but the one that kicked my butt into gear was her advice to take photos of everything. Especially the before photos. We all get so excited to start our projects we forget this step, she literally takes photos from every angle in the room, even if it is just a blank wall. Her strong advice to hire the best photographer you can afford was well received!

In the next post I will have even more tips and advice from the conference but right now I need to get some packing done, I move in 2 days! In the meantime hop on over to twitter follow my CreateGirl tweets and the hashtag #DBC2011 for even more tips.
