Let's Talk - Framed Posters

This morning I came across this cheery yellow room (thanks Will!) and it immediately brought sunshine to this frigid winter day. Not only was I drawn in by the color but also the typography (shocking, right?!) in the poster. So what are your thoughts on framed posters? Are they acceptable if they are over sized like the 2 below? Do you consider them to be "artwork" or more just "wall decor"?

  1. I think they look great when they're oversized, or when they're vintage.

  2. I have a couple that are waiting to be framed. But then, what's the line between "poster" and "print"? Is it only a poster if it's advertising something? In that case, I don't have any :) But I like the oversized/ vintage rule...

  3. The only poster we have in our home is framed and printed on a board - its my husband's of The Police, and it's in the back of the closet - haha! I have seen posters that I like though. One room in particular they have about six framed vintage band posters and they have the coolest artwork on them - it totally works with the asthetic of the room. But in general I'm not a poster fan if you're out of high school.

  5. We have a few concert posters that are framed that were my bf's (including one from the first concert we went to together, so it's nostalgic). But Zoe's point is interesting - these are screenprinted on heavy stock, not glossy and thin like a poster you'd buy at the mall. So are they really posters? I do like vintage (or even reproductions) travel posters if the art is really interesting.

  7. Love this conversation and was curious on the definition of the two.

Print is defined as "a reproduction of an original work of art"

Poster is defined as "a large, usually printed placard, bill, or announcement, often illustrated, that is posted to advertise or publicize something.

I must admit I have fallen in love with the piece in the second picture. Maybe its for the carefree nature but the size just makes it captivating!

  9. We have a few "posters" vintage old railway ads that I love but I'm struggling on how to hang them. I recently acquired some large ornate vintage frames that I'm thinking of painting but not sure if that's totally over the top. what do you think? frame or no frame?!
